Fibers and other musings of fate

In 1981, I was in California with my brother, visiting our grandfather. Parents called sharing they had “small surprise” and a “big surprise.” The small surprise was a guarantee, the big surprise was not certain. Turns out, the small surprise was our first horse, Babe. The big surprise was the ranch in beautiful Laramie, Wyoming, where my parents still live. Because of this history, my children differentiate these grandparents by calling them Grandma and Grandpa Horsey.

We quickly embraced this life, by raising horses and sheep. My brother and I had both meat and wool breeds and I loved showing sheep at county and state fairs. I sold my wool wholesale and was proud to be selected as the National Columbia Sheep Queen, representing the breed that I raised. In 4-H, using my grandmother’s sewing machine, I made and showed several jackets - for both me and my lambs. I tried to teach myself to knit and crochet when I was younger, but it never stuck.

Fast forward - a lot - I am currently teaching middle school and I have learned how to knit and crochet. This art brings me such joy, both to create and to give custom gifts to friends and family. I teach loom knitting to a local non-profit that collects beanies for donation to adults and children fighting cancer.

Thank you for visiting my site. I hope you find something to start a new project or a meaningful gift for someone special. Take care;) kb
